April Newsletter

"Get up offa that thing". British people sit for 8.9 hours each day (on average).

Do you remember we published an article about it back in November stating how major international research has produced compelling evidence that sitting for more than 4 hours each day leads to:

  • Enzymes responsible for burning harmful blood fats shutting down
  • Reduced calorie burning (Metabolic rate)
  • Disrupted blood sugar levels
  • Increased insulin and blood pressure levels
  • Leg muscles switch off

Well, how are you doing? Are you STILL sitting more than you should be? (Calculate just how much). Well now is your chance to do something about it!

FRIDAY 29TH APRIL IS 'ON YOUR FEET BRITAIN DAY'. Where this national compaign aims to encourage you to WIGGLE IT/WAGGLE IT/MOVE IT/GROOVE IT - JUST DON'T SIT ON IT!!

Workers across the country (including us of course) will be taking part in this national day. What will you do? We are removing most of our chairs (just for the day) and will stand and move as much as possible!

The On Your Feet Britain Challenge dares you to take James Brown at his word and convert 'sitting time' to 'standing time'. What could you do? Follow some simple changes - it’s easier than you think:

Stand during phone calls
Stand and take a break from your computer every 30 minutes
Use the stairs
Have standing or walking meetings
Eat your lunch away from your desk
Walk to your colleague's desk instead of phoning or emailing them
Stand at the back of the room during presentations
Team up with colleagues and see just how much "sitting time" you can reduce on the day!
Watch out for next months Spinal awareness week (9th-15th May) - where we plan to tell you all about how chiropractic keeps people connected within themselves and  their health as well as families, friendships, communities and globally.
